10 Good Reasons to Call Tony Before You Apply for Social Security Benefits
  1. Avoid picking an irrelevant or unfavorable “onset of disability” date.  The “onset date“ is the date you pick when Social Security asks when you became disabled.  This should not necessarily be the same date of your diagnosis or the date you started having problems.  Picking the right date can help your case at all stages of the proceeding.
  2. Avoid mistakes in filling out your “Work History” form.  The work history form is a document that Social Security will make you file along with your application for benefits.  I have seen so many people make so many small mistakes in this form that can have big consequences in the claim process.
  3. Avoid mistakes in your “Adult Disability Report” form.  This is another form that Social Security has you file along with your application for benefits.  If you fill out this form incorrectly, it can come back to wreck your case and haunt you throughout the entire claims process.
  4. Find out about the three ways to apply for benefits and decide which way is best for you.
  5. Learn about what it takes to have a successful Social Security Disability Case.  I will talk with you in detail about whether I can help you and whether I think your case has the probability of success.
  6. Learn about why your doctor’s support for your claim is essential, and what your doctor needs to send to the Social Security Administration.
  7. Discuss how you will “get by” while your claim is pending and decide if now  is the right time for you to apply for benefits.
  8. Understand how the receipt of State Unemployment Benefits can be completely contradictory to your claim and decide whether or not you should accept these benefits.
  9. Talk to me about what I can do for you and what I cannot do for you so that your expectations can be met.
  10. Talk to me and decide if I am the right lawyer for you throughout this process or whether it would be best that you talk to someone else before you begin this process.

If you have already applied for your benefits and been denied, your next step is to request a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge.  Please call me so we can try to figure out why your claim was denied.  If you have not called me before you apply for benefits, definitely call before you request your hearing with the Judge.
